Ground Rules

To effectively accomplish the goals I envision for this blog, it is imperative that I have a few "ground rules" to follow. These rules are simple, but I plan on sticking with them religiously as I make my way through the CRPG landscape.

I will only be playing role-playing games released on personal computers -  Naturally, this excludes handheld and console games. I have nothing against console gaming, but I have always had a fondness for western style RPGs released on personal computers. This means the Commodore 64/128, Amiga, Atari ST, DOS, Apple II and Windows based titles are all fair game.

I will NOT be playing titles in chronological order -  There have literally been thousands of games released over the years, and truthfully there is a good chance I will never play all of them. I am going to give it my best effort though, but I am not going to necessarily start at the beginning. I will be playing CRPGs released on home computers only. My journey will start in the year 1978 with the Apple II and move forward from there. My Master List is available to view, and it will be always changing--but I plan on following that list as a blueprint as best I can.

Each game that I begin, I will finish -  Barring a game-breaking bug or glitch, each CRPG I start I plan on finishing. I will chronicle my journey from beginning to end, then awarding a score upon completion. I may juggle several games at once, but I will not abandon a game once I start it.

I will use a personalized scoring system to rate the games I finish - If you are interested in seeing how I will be scoring my games, please see my entry entitled Scoring System. Each game will be ranked on a spreadsheet to compare positives and negatives of each title.

I will never use cheats, walkthroughs, trainers or hacks - Although I will never use any of these methods, I am not against using a hint guide if necessary, and in extreme cases possibly a walkthrough if all else fails. I expect this to rarely happen though. If I resort to this method, I will always explain my reasoning on doing so and make the reader aware.
